Meet the Jackson Mountain Homes Mascots!

"Lola" the new addition to the JMH family!

A couple of weeks before Christmas (2009) a friend of Jackson Mountain Homes named Mary spotted aLola Getting Acclimated to Her New Home little kitten in the parking lot of the Dollar Tree. She opened the car door and low and behold the little fur ball jumped into her car. Luckily, Mary had her dog carrier in the car, so she put the kitten in the carrier and brought her home. Mary soon fell in love with the little kitten and planned on keeping it. However, it later turned out that her baby granddaughter is allergic to cats and it would be impossible to keep her. Mary then set out to find the kitten a new and loving home. Mary interviewed some people who wanted to adopt her but decided that the situation was not right for the kitten. As luck would have it, Mary’s daughter Jessica knew that Jackson Mountain Homes had rescued two cats in the past and that we recently lost our beloved Waldo and that the remaining cat, Charlie was lonely. Several members of the JMH staff went to Mary's home to meet the kitten and after spending some time with Mary and the kitten there wasn’t any question that the kitten was destined to become Lola and a member of the JMH family! The staff had fun picking out a name for her and settled on Lola after a children’s cartoon called Charlie and Lola about a brother and sister. Lola immediately took over the office and Charlie just adores her! Be sure to say hello to Charlie and Lola the next time you visit Jackson Mountain Homes! We know you will love them as much as we!

Just Getting to Know You - Lola and Charlie

"Here's Charlie"

Early in February on one of the coldest mornings in 2009 I looked out of my kitchen door to see a scrawney stumbling white cat barely making it across my porch to the door. He appeared to have an injured leg and was quite skinny. I approached him cautiously and sat on the edge of the porch to see if he was friendly and instantly he curled up in my lap. After some examination, I could see the cat had an infected front leg, a bad case of ear mites, and was malnourished so I decided a trip to our vet was in order. After a couple of days at the vet and a round of antibiotics we picked him up and brought him to the office where the staff fell in love with the cat and named him Charlie.

Charlie fit right in and has become great friends with everyone including Waldo and is right at home as Jackson Mountain’s second mascot.

"Where is Waldo?"

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that our adopted feline son, "Waldo" has passed away!

A few weeks back Waldo came limping onto our porch bleeding from his back leg. We were all in a state of panic as we quickly rushed him to Dr. Dennis. Waldo, in his usual fashion, took his injury in stride even though it looked quite serious to us and later to Dr. Dennis. Over the course of the next few weeks, Waldo's leg was healing slowly under the watchful eye of his doctor. On Friday December the 18th while Waldo was undergoing his routine examination and cleaning of his wound, his dear but weak little heart gave up the fight and he left us for a better place in kitty heaven. WE WILL NEVER FOGET WALDO!

THE "WALDO" STORY

From day one, Waldo stole the hearts of everyone at JMH as well as the hearts of many of our guests whom he greeted on a daily basis at our front desk. I know that our staff will forever have fond memories of Waldo who became a bright spot in in our daily lives as he went from desk to desk shareing his love for us all. We will truly miss our little friend and the joy he brought us all!

In the fall of 2007 a staff member mentioned there was a cat under one of the cars in our parking lot. Before you knew it, several of us were out in the parking lot trying to entice a skinny orange & white cat out from under a car with a stick of cheese. Seems we should have used some chicken or other meat but it worked. He had been seen hanging out around the office by others in the past but he was unapproachable.

It wasn't long before he would take the food that we threw his way and, eventually, we were able to gain his trust. He started by allowing us to pet him and then to pick him up. At the same time, we were decorating the office grounds for the Harvest Festival and had put out dozens of scarecrows throughout our landscaping. Every morning when we would come to work, we would call for him, and he would pop up from among the scarecrows, yawning and stretching. We assumed he got lonely at night and the scarecrows were keeping him company! We decided to name him Waldo because everytime we went outside on the deck to lunch, someone would always say, “where’s the cat” and it reminded us of the “Where’s Waldo” cartoon, so the name stuck. His full name is "Waldo Shameless Jackson". Shameless because he will endure anything from us as long as we give him treats and lots of love and Jackson from the name of our company.

It took about 3 weeks for us to get Waldo to the vet. We could see that his face and one paw had been injured and we were sure he needed his shots. While at the vet, Dr. Dennis was able to give Waldo a thorough going over and this is when we found that Waldo had been severely abused prior to us taking him in. The left side of his face, teeth, and left eye had been badly injured by what appeared to be inflicted wounds. Waldo never complained and started to thrive with all the love and affection he was getting at work.

Waldo is now fat and happy and very much a part of the Jackson Mountain Homes family. He also has his very own house with a heated pad and blankets for the cold winter nights and during the day you can always find him at one of his many special places near our work stations.

We hope you will enjoy the ongoing photos and stories of Waldo as he becomes more and more an essential member of the JMH team!
