Ahhh the great outdoors! It’s hard to beat them. And enjoying outdoor adventures in the Smokies is as easy as stepping out the front door of your Gatlinburg rental cabin! Here are some of our favorite ways to have outdoor adventures here in the Smoky Mountains:
Go Whitewater Rafting In Gatlinburg
If your family has a sense of adventure and a love of thrills, rafting in the rivers of Gatlinburg and the surrounding area is definitely for you. Work together as a family and a team while paddling your way through the beautiful crystal clear rapids of the Smoky Mountains. Could there be a better way to spend a summer afternoon? Get a bird’s eye view of the Smoky Mountains while zipping through the trees at top speed! Ziplining is all the rage now in the Smokies and it’s easy to see why it’s one of the most popular attractions in Gatlinburg to choose from. This is definitely an attraction that the kids will love (even the older, pickier kids!). Read our blog post about Zip Lining in Gatlinburg for more information and where to go to have the best zip line experience!
With over 150 hiking trails in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, it’s no wonder why the Smokies is the most visited national park in the United States. We here at Jackson Mountain Homes recommend that you take advantage of the natural beauty in the Smokies in every season and time of day by hiking in the Smoky Mountains. Read our blog post about What To Know Before Hiking In The Great Smoky Mountains National Park for more information.
Tube Down a Smoky Mountain River
There are many rivers and streams on which you can spend a lazy day tubing and enjoying the scenery with friends. Two of the most scenic are Little River along Little River Road and the Little Pigeon River in Greenbrier. It is best to go to the Sugarlands Welcome Center to get information on where you can go tubing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. If you do not have your own tubes, many of the gas stations in Gatlinburg rent them. Just be careful to observe all safety precautions. And remember, though it may be hot outside here in the summer months, the water in the streams is very cold!
Horseback riding is a great Gatlinburg attraction – especially for families. What better way to enjoy the beautiful Smoky Mountains than from the back of a horse? See the Smokies like a true pioneer and visit areas rarely seen by most visitors. There are many companies that offer horseback riding through the mountainous terrain of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for novices and experienced riders alike.
