Dove’s Nest is proof that good things really do come in small packages. Perched on a ridge in a secluded setting among a hardwood forest, this 1-bedroom bijou of a log cabin offers majestic views of the Great Smoky Mountains and is decorated in a way that brings the great outdoors in. Yet it’s also loaded with amenities and just minutes from the restaurants, shops, and amusements of downtown Gatlinburg.

If you think the exterior of this cabin is charming—and it is, with front and back porches that stretch the width of the home—wait’ll you step into the main living/dining area. The hand-rubbed wood floors and walls, the stone surround of the gas fireplace, the wildlife prints by local artist Grace Dyer, the roomy roll-arm sofa complemented by antique furnishings, all set a warm, welcoming mood. That sofa, by the way, can convert into a bed for 2, should you have additional guests.

But Dove’s Nest has more than just charm going for it. The living area’s flat-panel TV, Blu-ray player, and CD player will keep you entertained should you tire of admiring the picture-perfect views, and the cabin’s web access makes it easy to stay up-to-date on emails (and to post pictures on Instagram and Facebook of the wonderful time you’re having!).

The cabin’s compact size means that even when you’re cooking you can watch TV or chat with your companion in the living area. And despite its modest proportions, the kitchen has all the appliances, cookware, and tableware you need to prepare even a multi-course dinner—and a dishwasher to make cleanup a snap. Prefer cooking outdoors? Dove’s Nest has a charcoal grill on one of its porches.

If dinner for 2 at the cozy table nestled by a window is the beginning of a romantic evening, a languorous soak with that special someone in the bedroom Jacuzzi or the back porch hot tub will maintain the mood. Unwinding among the pulsing jets of steamy water amid the fresh mountain air as stars twinkle above—bliss! Of course, you (and your tired muscles!) will also relish a soak in one of the jetted tubs when you return from an action-packed day of skiing, hiking, or horseback riding.

When it’s time to finally call it a night, you’ll really appreciate the king-size bed, along with the bedroom’s delightful decorative touches such as the stained-glass panel above the doorway, the foliage, the patchwork quilt, and the vintage furnishings. Sweet dreams are all but guaranteed, and when you wake in the morning you’ll be well rested and ready to seize the day.

Which is a good thing, because there’s so much to see and do within minutes of Dove’s Nest. Less than 10 minutes away by car is the Gatlinburg Community Center, where you can bowl, shoot pool or hoops, play racquetball, or swim in the indoor pool, to name just a few pursuits. Less than 10 minutes away is downtown Gatlinburg, where you’ll find everything from mini golf to an aquarium to the state’s first pancake house. Dove’s Nest is located in the Gatlinburg Arts and Crafts Loop, an 8-mile trail of more than 100 galleries, studios, and craft shops offering everything from stained glass to chainsaw art, custom knives to pottery. And let’s not forget the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with its hiking trails, historic cabins, waterfalls, and wildlife ranging from black bears to elk.

No matter whether you prefer white-water rafting, the amusements of Dollywood, or bird-watching in the Smokies, you’re sure to love returning to cozy Dove’s Nest, where you can relax on the porch in a rocking chair, a glass of wine or a mug of cocoa in your hand, as you listen to the mountain breeze rustle through the trees. Sounds delightful, doesn’t it? So why not book your stay today?
